Title: Billiard dynamics, between integrability and chaos

Abstract: Given a convex planar domain, we can study the associated billiard dynamics: a massless point moves in a straight line in the interior of the domain and then it bounces elastically on the boundary. These dynamics, introduced by G.D. Birkhoff, are largely studied in literature. We present classical results and we discuss some generic properties for analytic billiards..

Title: Rigidity under deformations of symmetric billiard tables close to ellipses

Abstract: In this second talk, we focus on a specific aspect of billiard dynamics related to spectral rigidity and Kac’s question, ‘Can one hear the shape of a drum?’. We present a recent result of Fierobe, Kaloshin, and Sorrentino establishing spectral rigidity under smooth deformations of strictly convex symmetric billiards close to ellipses, and outline the main ideas and ingredients of its proof.
