Applications are invited for a 3 year Research Associate role in Mathematics, tenable from 1 October 2017 (or a nearby date to be agreed). The aim of this project, funded by EPSRC UK, is to perform cutting edge research in the following two fields of modern probability theory and stochastic processes: (a) random walks and diffusions with long memory (including self-interacting walks, walks in random environment, tracer diffusion in interacting particle systems); (b) stochastic representations in statistical mechanics with special emphasis on quantum spin and particle systems. The Research Associate will work with Professor Balint Toth at the School of Mathematics, University of Bristol.

The Department of Mathematics of Università di Bologna has opened a call for a 1+1-year postdoctoral position denominated “Advanced postdoctoral position in Mathematics and Applications in Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering”.

The position is open to all candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or Economics and have been involved in postgraduate research activities for at least two years (counting from the application’s deadline, September 8, 2016, 1:00PM, CET). It is an “open” position in that all research areas that are currently represented in the Department will be considered (see the announcement for a list of them). The candidate is invited to contact a faculty member to evaluate the feasibility of his/her research proposal.

11 GSSI PhD fellowships in Mathematics

The new call for the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) PhD fellowships has been published at

The  Math program offers 11 fellowships including 1 supported by IIT, on Communication Networks of Plant Roots.

The GSSI is a newly established International Graduate School with student from more than 30 different nationalities.

The fellowship gross amount is 16,159 euro per year, plus free lodging in the GSSI premises and free access to the GSSI canteen at lunch time, during working days.

8 permanent positions in Mathematics at UFAL - Brazil

The Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of  Alagoas (UFAL), Maceio, Brazil announces  8 (eight) permanent positions in Mathematics.  The positions are open to PhDs in Mathematics with a background in Dynamical Systems, Differential Geometry, Algebra and Analysis.

The starting salary will be 8.639 Brazilian Reals per month and the ending salary is 15.956.

Two Ph.D. positions in Amsterdam

The KdV Institute for Mathematics of the University of Amsterdam offers two Ph.D. positions in Dynamical Systems and Complex Analysis at the University of Amsterdam.

Looking for candidates with a MSc degree in Mathematics. A strong background in analysis, and in particular in dynamical systems and/or complex analysis, is a plus.
