Three-year postdoc in dynamical systems at UNSW Sydney

The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW Sydney advertises a postdoctoral position in dynamical systems within a five-year Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship project led by Gary Froyland.

The project aims to develop new methods for the analysis of dynamical systems, drawing on functional analysis, operator theory, ergodic theory, differential geometry, data science, and machine learning. Possible research topics include linear response, statistical limit laws, random and nonautonomous dynamical systems, spectral analysis, data-driven dynamics, stability and perturbation theory, and rigorous numerics.

Potential applications include the analysis of spatiotemporal data from weather and climate models and observations, as well as models of social dynamics. The project is particularly concerned with identifying and analyzing large-scale structures in complex data, understanding the mechanisms behind their emergence and response to perturbations, and developing reliable methods for prediction.

The position is full-time, for approximately 36 months, with an expected end date in June 2029.

Salary: AUD 113,000–121,000, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
